Millipore Corporation Appoints New Vice President of Life Science Business Unit

John Sweeney to focus on technology development and partnerships

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 2009-- Millipore Corporation (NYSE: MIL), a leading provider of technologies, tools and services for the global life science industry, today announced the appointment of John Sweeney as Vice President of Millipore’s Life Science SBU. Most recently, Sweeney served as Vice President of Strategy and Marketing services for Millipore’s Bioscience Division.

“John is uniquely qualified to continue the transformation of our Life Science business,” said Jonathan DiVincenzo, President of Millipore’s Bioscience Division. “His success in the areas of strategy and business development will be invaluable in our efforts to bring innovative new products and solutions to our customers working in protein research and cell biology.”

Sweeney joined Millipore in 2003 as Director of Strategy and Corporate Development. In that role, he was responsible for long range strategic planning and served as the lead on execution of key M&A and partnership transactions, including Millipore’s $1.4 billion acquisition of Serologicals.

In his most recent role, Sweeney transformed Millipore's web presence, generating double-digit growth. He also built the Bioscience Business Development team which has resulted in several innovation partnerships and the acquisitions of Guava and Epitome.

Sweeney is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
